I love coming home with loot. Yesterday I came home with this pile of ribbon and vintage streamers...I am just itchin to use! that whole pile cost only $3.50. The ribbons remind me of the ribbon used to make military ribbons...does anyone know if i am right? I love digging through junky old thrift shops, and organized thrift shops like GoodWill and Salvation Army....I never have expectations,I have patience, open eyes, and the willingness to dig....you have to dig to uncover the good-stuff. You can't be afraid of sitting on the floor like a child and poking around the bottom shelf. It is rewarding to come up with a treasure, some thing so cool, something just right. Something you never needed a moment earlier. It used to be I thrifted out of necessity...now it is because i *want* too. I love it to much not to...My girls don't love it as much as I do, but I know they love the unique decor of our house, I know they love we have things no one else does...I know they love not being cookie cutter...
Most of the decor in my house is from consignment shops, thrift shops and the swap meet... I bought this funky hand made steel shelf for a $1...It is one of my favorite items in my house...I change the little vignettes displayed on it often. And right now my prized Jill Schwartz clock sits proudly front and center. In every corner of my house you will find something I found on a hunt...something I fell in love with and couldn't leave behind...That is one of the requirements of thrifting. I must absolutely love the item, if i don't it stays behind. I want my house, my art, and my wardrobe to reflect me and what i love ...totally and completely.
I love the old trunk my antique typrwriter sits on in my entry way...I change the notes out often. I love old typewriters so much that i have four of them all in different rooms of the house with notes in them. There is even one in my Kitchen. Requirement number two...you have to *use* the treasures you find...no point in storing them or hoarding them. They need to be enjoyed!
i too am a junk store junkie or dumpster diver (as we call each other here in St. Louie):) what great finds you have made. love the photo of the typewriter with birthday greeting.....i am like you about using them. what good are they stuffed away somewhere! Great Pics.....~L.
